Beer Can Litter Journal

A few facts about recycling beer cans (more here) and why it is environmentally important.

Processing used aluminium requires about 90% less energy and generates 90% fewer carbon emissions than making new aluminium out of bauxite.
Aluminium can pretty much live forever, if we let it.
Making a can from recycled material requires only 8 percent of the energy that it takes to make a can out of brand-new aluminium.

Below is my photographic journal that documents the discarded beer and cider cans I have discovered across Cambridge. Cans that probably won't be recycled. I have also included the odd aluminium soft drink can as they too need recycling.

	Heineken Lager Found at Broad Street beside Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge
	Kronenbourg 1664 Lager Discovered during an exercise walk during lockdown - people still littering! Found on road, Water View, Riverside, Cambridge
	Sold under the name "Holland Import Premium Beer" outside Europe. Found at Coldham's Road, Cambridge
	Special Brew AKA Tramps Juice Found outside Jimmy's, Cambridge
	Carlsberg Lager. I found this at local beauty spot - obviously, the litterer does not care about the environment. Found outside Milton Country Park
	Carlsberg unveils limited-edition cans... Obviously this one was dropped by accident. Found at Coldham's Road, Cambridge
	OJ Premium Strong Belgian Beer 8.5 % and Kestrel Super Strong Lager. OJ it as having "a taste that leaves you wanting more" and for those "who aim to make every night ungortgettable". Kestrel describe their lager as "A beer for sipping, possibly from a wine glass - and certainly one for sharing" Found beside community seating on the Riverside Bridge, Cambridge
	Cans of Stella Artois dumped by the roadside. Found in Chesterton leading to roundabout.
	Multiple cans and other litter. Found at the University of Cambridge
	Żubr beer (Polish for Bison) is a 6% Polish lager. "Żubr embodies the power of peace. The guardian of the wilderness… the perfect choice for every man who, after a long day at work, needs a moment of rest." A beer blogger describes it as a refreshing but ghastly high-strength lager. In reply one comment was "I tried Zubr and enjoyed it. It is strong." Another wrote, "Poland has a bunch of great craft beers, unfortunately only mass produced “euro lager” kind gets through..." 	Polish Warka lager Warka Brewery is majority owned by the Dutch Heineken Group. Discovered during an exercise walk during lockdown - people still littering! Found near Abbey Road, Cambridge
	Tesco Apple Cider As of 2020 avaible for £2.20 for a pack of 4. Found overgrown area beside B&Q, Newmarket Road, Cambridge
	Birra Moretti, a quality Italian lager made in the traditional way... According to YouGov the 29th most popular beer & cider brand in the UK. Found at York Street, Cambridge
	Perła Miodowa Polish Honey Beer 6% ABV. Found overgrown area beside B&Q, Newmarket Road, Cambridge
	Rebranded White Ace Cider Murder in a can. "High-strength ciders and super-strength beers have emerged as one of the biggest killers of homeless people in the UK, responsible for a higher death toll than either heroin or crack cocaine."" Found beside passageway leading to York Street, Cambridge
	White Ice "White cider is becoming like heroin among alcoholics." Found at Beehive Centre, Cambridge
